Chapter 5
It had been part of the plan to turn Han Saem into a eunuch, but profiting off the event was an unexpected development for Seong-min.
- ‘GomtangJaeryoPoo’ has donated 100 won.
- ‘tls1234’ has donated 1,000 won.
The donations weren’t jaw-dropping amounts, but Seong-min found himself reflecting on the situation.
‘The money keeps coming in.’
Meanwhile, the number of viewers continued to rise steadily without a single dip.
- ‘Tbrogan95’ has joined the broadcast.
- ‘bezzaboyo’ has joined the broadcast.
- Current viewers: 72/100.
If the viewers had only been passively watching, Seong-min might have shut down the broadcast out of sheer annoyance.
It was distracting, after all.
‘Now that I think about it, Blade & Dragon used to have a lot of famous BJs, didn’t it? People were streaming from every corner.’
But since he’d monopolized this broadcast, his path to stardom in this niche was inevitable—at least when it came to streaming.
‘For now, let’s see how it goes. I’m making small amounts of money here and there, so there’s no reason to hate it.’
But the broadcast wasn’t the real priority.
‘The important thing is finishing this.’
Returning to his cell after his meeting with the Overseer, Seong-min carefully placed the cage containing the crow onto the cold floor.
Time to refocus.
‘Anyway, that’s the end of things with the Overseer.’
The conversation they’d had earlier was now irrelevant. The Overseer no longer mattered.
‘The crow was the real priority. The Holy Grail issue doesn’t matter. The Overseer…’
He’d gotten everything he needed from the Overseer in the early stages of the game. The rest would proceed without his involvement.
‘As expected, the Overseer has no idea who’s coming from the Church. Everything is going as planned.’
Nodding to himself, Seong-min began planning his next steps.
‘The real issue starts now. The Church is on its way.’
And it wasn’t just a bishop coming.
The Church’s enforcers, who were tasked with punishing heretics and defilers of the faith—the Inquisitors—were coming too.
‘The Inquisitors… I’ll be seeing them again soon.’
Seong-min’s gaze fell to the crow in its cage.
The one-eyed crow was breathing faintly, its condition so weak it seemed like it might die at any moment.
‘Its condition looks bad, but there’s no need to worry. It’s not an ordinary crow—it’s a divine beast. Plus, there’s a priest nearby who can heal it.’
With a faint smile, Seong-min glanced at one of the walls.
On the other side was his silent companion, who never spoke, no matter the situation.
‘Bell Gibson is an excellent healer. I can’t count how many times those hands have saved me.’
A former priest, Bell’s primary role at the moment was supporting the protagonist by healing wounds.
What role he would take on later depended on the player’s choices, but for now, that was his main function.
‘Alright, I’ve got the One-Eyed Crow. Now, all that’s left is the Rabbit’s Foot.’
The Rabbit’s Foot.
It was a rare item that increased the Luck stat by 2 points, making it a must-have for advanced players.
‘You can only get items that boost Luck stats in the early or very early stages of the game. If you don’t grab them while you have the chance, you’ll regret it later. This game’s all about RNG, after all.’
In contrast, equippable weapons didn’t need to be prioritized early on.
They weren’t high-grade items, and better ones would naturally become available as time passed.
‘The Rabbit’s Foot is in the cell next door.’
Seong-min’s gaze shifted to the cell opposite Bell Gibson’s.
‘There’s no one in there right now, but the Rabbit’s Foot is.’
The problem was that the cell was locked, meaning ordinary methods wouldn’t work to get the item.
‘But for someone like me, there are exceptions.’
One way to retrieve the Rabbit’s Foot was to use the guards stationed in the underground prison.
‘Usually, players would try to talk Han Saem into helping. But he’s out of the picture now.’
After being skewered in the groin, Han Saem likely wouldn’t be seen again.
‘So I’ll have to use someone else.’
Decision made, Seong-min began banging loudly on his cell door.
Bang! Bang!
“Hey! Is anybody out there? Somebody, come over here!”
For a prisoner, his voice was unreasonably loud.
As his shouts echoed through the prison, the small iron window on the door slid open, and a guard peeked in.
This guard wasn’t a familiar face like Han Saem, but that didn’t matter.
“Why are you making such a racket? Be quiet.”
The guard’s voice lacked authority, likely because the incident with Han Saem had already spread, along with word of what had happened in the Overseer’s office.
Seong-min flashed a faint smile and spoke to the guard who had come to investigate.
“Hey. You know who I am, don’t you?”
[Here he goes again.]
[The con artist is back at it.]
[LOL, this is hilarious.]
“Ahem… Of course, I know who you are.”
The guard didn’t even bother finishing the phrase “a heretic.” He knew that saying something like that might provoke Seong-min, and he didn’t want to take any risks.
Confirming that the soldier was already frightened, Seong-min boldly pressed on.
“Did you or did you not see me having a one-on-one meeting with the Overseer?”
“I-I did…”
“So you saw that? Then you must also know that I dealt with Han Saem and nothing happened to me, right?”
The soldier, his eyes filled with fear, gave a hesitant nod.
It was true—the Overseer had let Seong-min go unscathed, even after he left Han Saem half-crippled. From the soldier’s perspective, Seong-min was someone they absolutely couldn’t afford to cross.
“Good, then this will be an easy conversation.”
“I-I can’t release you.”
“Who said anything about releasing me? I just need you to do me a small favor.”
“A favor? What kind of favor?”
Seong-min motioned with his chin toward the adjacent cell.
“That cell next door. There’s something of mine in there.”
“Something of yours?”
[What’s in the next cell?]
[Isn’t the door locked?]
[Oh, that’s where the Rabbit’s Foot is.]
The soldier replied hesitantly, his voice almost a whisper.
“There shouldn’t be anything in there… It’s an empty cell.”
“Quiet. Just go check if there’s something in there. It’s called the Rabbit’s Foot.”
“The Rabbit’s Foot?”
A symbol of good fortune.
Could such an item really exist?
“There’s no way something like that is in there…”
“What if it is?”
The soldier gulped, then reluctantly nodded.
“Fine, I’ll check. Just wait here.”
Opening the door to the adjacent cell, the soldier soon found the Rabbit’s Foot.
“It’s really here? What’s this doing in the next cell?”
At the soldier’s bewildered remark, Seong-min smirked faintly.
“I told you, didn’t I? I left it there.”
“…”
Through the small metal slot, the soldier handed the Rabbit’s Foot to Seong-min.
– You have obtained the ‘Rabbit’s Foot.’
– Your Luck stat has increased. You feel like something good might happen soon.
[Wow, he actually got the Rabbit’s Foot!]
[Congrats on the rare item.]
[Starting off strong!]
[He’s playing like a pro—collecting all the essentials.]
- ‘IncheonHyupgaek’ has donated 500 won.
- ‘ApgujeongMansour’ has donated 10,000 won.
Another 10,000 won donation. And from the same person.
Feeling slightly awkward, Seong-min scratched the bridge of his nose.
‘Does this guy have too much money? That’s twice now.’
Not wanting to dwell on it, Seong-min refocused on the task at hand.
‘Anyway, this is great. There’s nothing more to pick up here except for a few weapons I’ll need for self-defense later.’
Having secured the Rabbit’s Foot, Seong-min couldn’t suppress the smile spreading across his face.
‘This game is all about luck. Without it, you’ll trip and fall flat on your face every time.’
Thinking ahead, Seong-min began recalling other lucky items he’d need to collect later.
‘Next up is the Salt Pouch. But that’s not something I can get here.’
Turning to the soldier, who seemed eager to leave, Seong-min called out.
“Thanks for your help, friend. Oh, and let me give you some advice.”
The soldier looked at him with wide, uncertain eyes as Seong-min spoke seriously.
“If you’re off duty tonight, make sure to have dinner with your family. No matter what, spend that time with them. Trust me—you’ll be glad you did. You might even thank me later. I mean it. Believe me.”
The soldier, swallowing hard, gave a silent nod before closing the metal slot and walking away.
Watching him leave, Seong-min mused to himself.
‘If this really is reality, he’d better take my advice. If he wants to survive, that is.’
[Is something happening tonight? Why did he say that?]
[Aside from the escape, nothing major, right? Or is there something we’re missing?]
[If the Overseer is convinced, things can get messy with the Church. That’s when it all falls apart.]
[Yeah, chaos incoming.]
Though Seong-min couldn’t reveal the full truth, his cryptic warning hinted at the bloodshed that was sure to come tonight.
It was also the time when Bell Gibson, his companion in the next cell, would join him in their escape.
With the Rabbit’s Foot in hand, Seong-min turned to Bell’s cell and called out.
“Hey! You’re listening, right? If you are, toss a stone like you did earlier.”
Moments later, the sound of a small stone rolling across the floor came through the drain.
Confirming the response, Seong-min raised his voice again.
“Tonight. Tonight, you and I are getting out of here. Remember that.”
There was no verbal reply. Instead, another stone rolled across the floor, serving as Bell’s answer.
Satisfied, Seong-min sat cross-legged on the cold floor of his cell.
‘Now all that’s left is to calmly gather my energy and wait for the right moment.’
Thanks for the chapters!!
