Chapter 77

“Brother Ayu?” Jiang Ruohua gave his shoulder a light pat.

“Huh… Brother Wen, I didn’t say anything.” Luo Yu’s mind was already drifting; his alcohol tolerance was terribly low, and it hadn’t magically improved in this new world. “According to how things are supposed to play out, the marriage isn’t supposed to end yet…”

“But I’d say… it’s actually a damn good thing it ended! I mean, my wife—she’s so strong, beautiful, amazing, and capable… Does Luo Zhengyu deserve her? Not at all! He’s scum! You know how much her family has done for him?! And he just takes her for granted! What a jerk! He’s useless and can’t even appreciate how amazing she is! He deserves nothing but crap! Vile rat! The scum of the earth! I—mmph!”

Jiang Ruohua clamped her hand over his mouth.

Goodness! This fake Yin Wang had really let loose while drunk! If Luo Zhengyu really was such “scum,” that was indirectly an insult to the current Emperor himself.

And meanwhile, that mysterious “system” had gone totally silent; Jiang Ruohua couldn’t see it, nor guess its thoughts, but just in case it was about to interfere, she feigned ignorance. “Brother Ayu, you’re definitely drunk.”

“I can still cuss him out, though.”

Jiang Ruohua agreed with every insult he’d thrown at Luo Zhengyu. Given her choice, she’d just as soon take him out herself. Scolding him was barely enough to release the bitterness in her heart.

In fact, she’d go even further.

After all, unless it’s you yourself suffering, it’s hard for others to really feel the pain. She doubted anyone wanted Luo Zhengyu dead as badly as she did.

“Brother Ayu, you’re angrier than I am. Did Prince Yin wrong you personally?” Jiang Ruohua’s curiosity grew as she noticed that this fake Yin Wang absolutely despised the real one. But why, then, would he be doing work for him? Especially tasks as harmful as taking bribes, selling government posts, and forming alliances with corrupt people for his own profit. These were things that hurt innocent people.

“No, it’s not that…” Luo Yu managed to straighten himself out a bit. “It’s more… let’s just say there are things I’d rather forget.”

Then, all at once, he collapsed onto the table, crying, “I should never have believed that scummy system! Made it sound so easy! It told me to take over some guy’s life who’d, uh, passed away, and promised I’d have two beautiful girls all to myself. Pure lies!”

“Said I’d have a wife, but she’s dumped me! And that Zhaogujia woman is such a pain to deal with! All she does is act fake! No one told me being a prince meant staying up later than dogs and getting up earlier than roosters! I can’t do it!”

Jiang Ruohua listened with an inscrutable look, her expression steady. The “system” hadn’t made a sound since, though she doubted it was entirely gone. Still, she learned a few new things.

So, he was here to replace that scummy man because of this so-called “system.” Jiang Ruohua furrowed her brow slightly. Just based on what she’d heard from the system, it hardly seemed trustworthy. And yet, this fake Yin Wang had believed it?

He really was rather… simple.

Lightly tapping her chin, she pondered whether, perhaps, being in the wilderness had left spirits less… cunning than people? To her, this fake Yin Wang and his system’s conversations sounded like bickering children. No one over seven years old in her family spoke like that.

But it was kind of charming to hear. Jiang Ruohua didn’t mind childish people; they were simpler. Unlike the people she was used to dealing with, who hid their true intentions, this kind of person’s thoughts were easy to read and rather amusing.

“Hush now, Brother Ayu,” Jiang Ruohua gently patted his back. While he’d probably answer any question she asked right now, she chose to keep up her pretense of not understanding him. After all, that “system” was still lurking somewhere, very possibly keeping an eye on things.

“No, no, I’m not sad,” Luo Yu mumbled, forcing himself upright again. “I just love my life now. Really.”

【Hmph! No one’s going to find any flaws in my disguise! I’m the perfect fake Yin Wang!】

Jiang Ruohua: …

Ever since she’d met him again after the broken engagement, she’d suspected… a few things.

Still, it was best not to tell him.

“Alright, alright.” Jiang Ruohua thought for a moment. Tomorrow was not a rest day, and if this guy left the pleasure quarters drunk, he’d likely be impeached by the court.

His character made him ideal for her purposes. If he loathed doing bad deeds, she could get close to him and learn more, possibly even stop certain things from happening before they could start.

With that thought, she left some money on the table, hauled the thoroughly drunk fake prince up, and carried him out of the pleasure house, his feet dragging behind her.

“Brother Ayu, where’s your house?”

Jiang Ruohua figured the system could hear her, even if she couldn’t see it or hear it. Feigning concern, she asked her question repeatedly, only for him to give no answer.

Without anyone coming to pick him up, she took him to an inn, left some money with the innkeeper, and asked them to make sure he got some hangover soup and a good night’s rest. While he was stubborn about being sober, the fake prince did listen to coaxing, and didn’t make a fuss. With a bowl of soup and a gentle push, the innkeeper had him sound asleep in a room upstairs.

It was late by then, and Jiang Ruohua let out a small yawn before returning to the Jiang estate, skipping her usual evening routine and collapsing straight into bed.

Predictably, the fake prince’s morning didn’t go smoothly.

He’d overslept again.

Since it was his second time, nearly everyone in court heard about it, and soon after, the tale spread among the households of the nobility. By the time Jiang Ruohua heard about it, the story had already taken on all sorts of new details.

“This is too funny! Who’d have thought he’d get embarrassed like this?”

Huachan, happy as could be, chatted animatedly as she helped Jiang Ruohua dress, “Karma, I say! It’s finally come back to bite him!”
