Chapter 51

A one-hour-and-ten-minute flight. Ji Yang opened episodes of Together to watch with Xu Ruier.

At first, Xu Ruier watched attentively. Gradually, her eyes began to close, though she made an effort to keep them open. Her head tilted until it finally rested on Ji Yang’s shoulder, and she fell asleep.

Cameraman: “…”

She’s asleep?

She had already woken up an hour later than Ji Yang this morning, and now she’s sleeping again?

Ji Yang turned off the volume on the tablet, picked up a blanket, and gently draped it over her. He stayed in that position, adjusting slightly when her head nearly slipped off his shoulder. At one point, she unconsciously grabbed his hand in her sleep and seemed to settle into an even deeper rest.

Even though the flight couldn’t be livestreamed, this scene was edited into the broadcast. When it aired, viewers unexpectedly found themselves drowning in a wave of sweetness.

Online comments:

  • “I was just about to eat breakfast. Now I’m full, thanks to all this dog food!”
  • “Ji Yang is so gentle, it’s almost unbearable. How is someone like him even real?”
  • “LOL, Xu Ruier’s expression is hilarious. You can tell she’s super spoiled at home and loves to act cute with Ji Yang. She’s a pro at it!”

While viewers were busy flooding the comment sections, the couple had already deplaned. Still groggy from her nap, Xu Ruier clung to Ji Yang’s hand and followed him. With her naturally sweet appearance, she resembled a shy little wife, instantly winning hearts.

At the airport, they met the other two couples on the show: the popular rapper Li Peng with his supermodel girlfriend Zhang Jie, and young actor Yang Rui with singer Mo Qianqian.

Mo Qianqian was bright and outgoing, Zhang Jie more reserved, while Li Peng was talkative and Yang Rui had a knack for humor.

After a brief exchange of pleasantries, everyone boarded the same van and chatted along the way. Before they realized it, they had arrived at their destination and already begun warming up to each other.

The group arrived at a quaint historical town, known for its local flair. Their accommodations were traditional homestays with a rooftop terrace that offered views of the town’s most famous ancient street.

They arrived at exactly noon. After lunch, they returned to their rooms to unpack before tackling the afternoon’s first challenge.

The accommodations featured suites with inner and outer rooms.

Inside, Zhang Jie and Mo Qianqian grabbed their luggage and entered the bedrooms, beginning to unpack. Xu Ruier initially followed suit but later stepped out to the living area. She noticed Ji Yang’s open suitcase on the floor while he stood on the balcony, quietly talking on the phone. Without a word, she approached and began packing his suitcase neatly before returning to finish organizing her own belongings.

But of course, the “critics” appeared.

Online comments:

  • “Didn’t Xu Ruier say relationships should be equal? Looks to me like she’s more of Ji Yang’s nanny. No offense, but this doesn’t seem like a balanced relationship at all.”
  • “Textbook definition of a simp. Best girlfriend in the country, right here.”
  • “Honestly, I feel like Xu Ruier is getting the short end of the stick in this relationship. She’s obviously the one putting in more effort.”

Later, when Ji Yang ended his call and returned, he noticed his suitcase was packed. As Xu Ruier emerged from her room, they exchanged a glance just as the program’s first mission was announced.

Critics intensified:

  • “Look at that! Ji Yang just took it for granted. Didn’t even say thank you! Xu Ruier must be so pitiful; how does she not realize how sad this is?”
  • “Keyboard warriors” happily fired away, uncaring of the actual dynamics.

The first task involved a scavenger hunt. The production team had hidden eleven “Rainbow Cards” in eleven different shops around town. To get a card, participants needed to purchase the local specialty, Rainbow Cake, at the correct shop.

But here’s the catch: all the participants’ money and communication devices were confiscated. Without money, how could they buy the cake?

The production team had hidden cash in boxes scattered across the town. The participants needed to find these boxes to get funds.

Rules:

  • Duration: one hour.
  • After an hour, all cash boxes would be removed. Without cash, it was impossible to buy the cake or win a card.

The scavenger hunt began at 5 p.m. sharp, ending at 6 p.m. The Rainbow Card hunt would then follow immediately. Participants were notified of the rules at 4 p.m., giving them exactly one hour to strategize and prepare.
