Chapter 57
At noon, Ji Yang and his little family of three returned home. As soon as the car stopped, the two little ones hopped out, carrying their small bags as they waddled inside.
Once home, Ji Yang took the fruits to the kitchen to wash and placed them neatly on a plate before bringing them to the two little ones, who were sitting on the carpet in the living room watching TV.
“Mommy is calling. Talk to Mommy,” Ji Yang said, placing the fruits down just as his phone began ringing.
“Mommy!” Ji Qian, holding a big strawberry in her little hand, turned her head toward the phone screen showing Xu Ruier. She held up the strawberry, trying to hand it through the screen. “Mommy, eat fruit!”
“Mommy doesn’t need it. Qian Qian can eat it. Sweetheart, where did Daddy take you today?” Xu Ruier’s soft voice came through the call.
“Fruit,” Qian Qian replied, holding her big strawberry and glancing back at Xu Ruier. “Fruit. Daddy took us.”
“We picked big tomatoes!” Ji Yisheng’s speech was much clearer, and he chimed in eagerly as he peeled an orange in his hands.
“So, Daddy took you to pick strawberries and oranges?” Xu Ruier said with a laugh.
“And melons…”
“And grapes…”
The two spoke over each other, trying to list everything at once. When they couldn’t think of more names, they both turned to Ji Yang for help, their little faces wrinkled in thought. Xu Ruier laughed heartily, her gaze full of warmth.
After chatting with the kids for a little while, Xu Ruier reluctantly ended the call when the director called her back to work.
As soon as the call ended, Qian Qian grabbed another strawberry with her free hand and held it up to Ji Yang’s mouth. “Daddy, fruit!”
Ji Yang looked at her adorable little face, his heart melting. In a sense, the emotions of his original self and his current self were perfectly blended. The children were his blood and flesh; they tugged at the deepest parts of his heart.
“It’s tasty,” her big round eyes sparkled as she watched him. “Daddy, open your mouth and eat it.”
This move melted the viewers’ hearts again.
Ji Yang didn’t particularly like strawberries. Their sweet-and-sour taste was something only Xu Ruier and Qian Qian enjoyed. But he still opened his mouth and took a bite, nodding at her pure gaze. “It’s delicious.”
“Qian Qian will eat too.” She popped the other strawberry into her own mouth. She bit down hard, her mouth stretching wide.
In the next moment, her face scrunched up tight, her eyes clamped shut, and her whole body shivered as she spat the strawberry out along with her drool.
“Pfft… Waaah…” Qian Qian wailed, her eyes tightly shut, neck hunched. Drool continued to flow. “Sour! Fruit is sour…”
Ji Yang couldn’t help but laugh. He quickly grabbed some tissues to wipe her mouth while Ji Yisheng shoved an orange slice into her mouth.
“Sour!” she reflexively tried to spit it out. But when her brother insisted it was sweet, she hesitated, her chubby cheeks puffing up as she chewed cautiously. After a moment of taste testing, she confirmed it was indeed sweet and swallowed it, licking her tiny tongue afterward.
Then, she crawled onto Ji Yang. “Daddy, fruit is sour, not sweet.”
“This one’s sour. Qian Qian, try a different one,” Ji Yang said, holding out the plate to her again.
“Fragrant fruit is sour!” She clearly had enough, shaking her head like a rattle drum and raising her hands defensively. She turned instead to Ji Yisheng to ask for more orange slices.
Ji Yang, worried she might develop a fear of strawberries, picked up the plate again and walked over to her. She was now sitting in front of Ji Yisheng, her chubby hands propping up her face as her round head leaned toward her brother. “Brother, give Qian Qian some.”
Ji Yisheng, absorbed in his cartoon, clumsily peeled a slice of orange and stuffed it into her mouth.
“Qian Qian,” Ji Yang called her over. Although she clearly had no more interest in the strawberries, he gently coaxed her into holding one again.
“Take a small bite, just a little. This one’s not sour,” Ji Yang encouraged her softly.
Qian Qian glanced down at the strawberry in her hand. Its bright red color looked so appealing. She then looked up at her brother and crawled over to him, pressing the strawberry to his mouth. “Brother, eat fruit.”
Ji Yisheng, still engrossed in his cartoon, opened his mouth and took a big bite before leaning away to continue watching.
Qian Qian stared at her brother, then at the half-eaten strawberry in her hand. It still looked very tempting. Just as Ji Yang was about to say something, she quickly raised the fruit and took a big bite herself. Juice dripped down her hand as she chewed, stuck out her tongue, and went in for another bite.
Ji Yang: “…”
Viewers: “…”
Qian Qian truly didn’t follow a typical route, always surprising everyone with her unpredictable ways.
Once she finally tasted the sweetness, she hugged the plate and sat beside her brother. The two little ones shared the fruit, taking turns eating, quiet and obedient.
Meanwhile, Ji Yang returned to the kitchen to prepare their meal.
Viewers noticed that of the three dads on the show, Ji Yang was not only the first to handle two kids at once, but he managed it so well. On top of that, he could make delicious meals.
While the other dads ultimately failed and resorted to ordering takeout, Ji Yang prepared two dishes and a soup. The presentation was impeccable, and it looked incredibly appetizing.
After the two little ones finished their meal, they held hands and went to nap precisely on time.
Qian Qian was very clingy with Ji Yang and Ji Yisheng. She loved to act cute and occasionally threw in a bit of childish mischief. Like now, she was lying on top of her brother, arms and legs wrapped around him, her chubby face squished flat against him.
“Qian Qian!” Ji Yisheng shouted. “Get down, get down!”
“No, no,” Qian Qian shook her head.
Ji Yisheng rolled over, causing her to tumble off. She promptly turned and clung to him again. “Hug me to sleep!”
When Ji Yang walked in, he saw the two little ones tugging at each other. He stepped forward to mediate, but before he could say much, Ji Qian had already abandoned Ji Yisheng and started clinging to him for a nap, leaving her brother feeling a bit upset.
His sister was so cold, so heartless, so uncaring.
Thankfully, little kids forget quickly. A bit of coaxing later, both were fast asleep.
In the afternoon, the family went to the supermarket. The large crowd quickly noticed their presence, and a wave of onlookers began gathering. The number of people kept increasing.
With Ji Yang and Xu Ruier’s massive fan base, this reality show fulfilled the heartfelt wishes of many fans. Upon seeing them in person, some fans were so overwhelmed they couldn’t help but tear up.
“Daddy,” Ji Qian called out as they stood at the supermarket entrance. Ji Yang turned to her, “What’s wrong?”
“That sister is crying…” Ji Qian pointed to a fan not far away, whose emotions were visibly intense.
When Ji Qian turned to look, the fan screamed louder, her tears falling even harder.
“She’s crying.” Ji Qian’s big eyes looked at her father, filled with confusion. “Is that sister named Qian Qian too? She’s crying.”
Ji Yang followed her gaze to the fan, who was among a group being firmly held back by security.
While Xu Ruier was famous for being doting towards fans, Ji Yang wasn’t. He rarely appeared in public, had little interaction with his fans, and as a result, didn’t share the same emotional connection with them.
After some thought, he set Ji Qian down and let her walk over by herself.
“Qian Qian!”
“Sweetie, look this way!”
“Ahhh… so cute, I’m going to explode from cuteness.”
Ji Qian, with her porcelain doll-like features, wore her hair in a big braid, making her look even more adorably clumsy. She was dressed in a princess dress, her cuteness taken to another level.
Step by step, she made her way over to the crying fan, who was so overwhelmed she couldn’t squat down to her level because of the security personnel.
Ji Qian tilted her head up to look at the fan. With her chubby little hand, she pulled a piece of chocolate out of her pocket and extended it. Her soft, sugary voice was filled with concern, “For sister, don’t cry.”
That did it. The fan started bawling even harder, completely overcome with emotion, her hands covering her mouth as she looked at the little girl.
“Sweet, eat it, it’s sweet.” Ji Qian took another small step forward, holding the chocolate out further. “For sister.”
With trembling hands, the fan took the chocolate, her voice raspy from crying, “Thank you, Qian Qian.”
Ji Qian turned around and happily ran back to Ji Yang, smiling brightly as she grabbed his hand. The family of three walked into the supermarket together.
The fans watching online were utterly charmed. The two little ones in Ji Yang’s family were irresistibly adorable.
When the episode aired, Ji Yang’s children became instant sensations. Their popularity skyrocketed, eventually surpassing Ji Yang and Xu Ruier’s own fame.
They earned the titles of “National Little Prince” and “National Daughter.”
From then on, fans stopped clamoring for Ji Yang to act in more dramas or for Xu Ruier to take on new roles. Instead, their attention was fixated on the two little ones.
“Can they take the kids on another reality show? Ji Yang can join, or Xu Ruier, anyone is fine! Why leave such cute kids at home?”
“If you won’t act in new shows, just bring the kids on TV. We don’t mind.”
“Or let your kids act instead!”
Unfortunately, Ji Yang only brought the children on that one show. Afterward, they never appeared on any other programs, and the couple did an excellent job of keeping their children’s lives private. Fans were left in the dark.
The next time the children made headlines was eighteen years later.
A photo of the “Heartthrob of Imperial University” went viral. In the picture, a young man in a white shirt and black trousers sat in the library reading. Sunlight poured through the window, casting a glow over him.
He exuded the aura of a refined and gentle youth, elegant and composed.
His bio read: Ji Yisheng, 20 years old, finance major at Imperial University.
His sudden reappearance reignited curiosity about Ji Qian. But despite searches, no information about her surfaced in local universities. Speculation arose—had she not been accepted into college?
Fans were in for a surprise. A foreign netizen revealed her current status: Ji Qian was studying at a prestigious music academy in France, enrolled in a combined bachelor’s and master’s program.
The photos showed a cheerful girl who bore a striking resemblance to Xu Ruier but was even more dazzling.
Fans were elated and proud. The people they quietly admired had turned out to be such exceptional individuals.
“Task complete. Reward points have been credited to the host’s account.”
Ji Yang returned to the system as the voice echoed in the space around him. This time, he had completed a life with Xu Ruier that was calm and fulfilling. Their children were filial, and their lives peaceful—a satisfying conclusion.
Returning to the system felt jarring at first. The emotions that lingered were fading, everything gradually resetting. To be precise, most of the emotions belonged to the original host. With the task complete, the original host’s soul dissipated, taking the emotions with it.
Soon, Ji Yang would once again be a drifting, emotionless soul without a physical form.
“Would the host like to select a new task?” the system asked.
“Proceed,” Ji Yang said without hesitation, moving toward the time machine.
The system informed him that this new task was worth 800 points. Ji Yang felt a twinge of unease. So many points? This was several times more than the previous task. Could it mean…
“The marriage certificate was arranged by your Ji family. The divorce certificate will be handled by our Xiao family. Ji Yang, from this moment on, you and Xiaowen are no longer connected. Our families are done with each other!”
Ji Yang had just opened his eyes when something smacked him hard on the face—a booklet. The sting made him wince as he looked down. The bright red booklet on the floor bore three large words: Divorce Certificate.
At that moment, he realized he was kneeling on the ground.
A furious middle-aged man threw down those words with venom before storming off.
“Wait, in-law, let me explain! This is all a misunderstanding!” A woman in a cheongsam followed, her voice filled with desperation. “They can’t divorce! Xiaowen is still pregnant! In-law…”
“Unfilial son!” an elderly man in a Zhongshan suit roared, brandishing a cane as he started beating Ji Yang.
Still processing what was happening, Ji Yang had no chance to explain. He had to dodge blows while enduring the sharp pain.
All while remaining kneeling.
What on earth had the original host done? During a brief reprieve, Ji Yang began absorbing the host’s memories. As the memories came flooding in, his expression darkened, and his lips twitched.
He wanted nothing more than to drag the original host out and beat him senseless. How could someone mess up this badly? What was wrong with his brain?!
