Chapter 1
A common game.
But it was my type.
Casual graphics, light but intriguing story, and even character development. No other game fit my preferences this perfectly.
Warriors Kingdom was the game of my life, a bittersweet companion I poured half of my life into.
But maybe I played it too much.
“Hmm, did I get too immersed? Now I’m confusing reality with the game?”
I think… I’ve ended up inside this game…… Damn it.
The game’s plot was simple.
The protagonist, Ackerman Breed, grows stronger as he overcomes trials at the Warriors Academy, and in the end defeats the final villain, Thanatos.
You could say it’s literally a righteous, shonen-style game.
For someone like me who enjoyed shonen manga, there was no better game.
Of course… that was back when I played it in my room on a computer.
“This is insane.”
Once the game became my reality, the story changed entirely.
First, you need to understand the game’s setting to grasp what I mean.
With the rising threat from neighboring powerful nations and magical beasts, the protagonist’s country—the Kingdom of Eonia—was in deep worry.
After long deliberation, they concluded that in order to protect the kingdom and its people, they needed strength.
That’s how the Warriors Academy was established.
Its purpose was to train warriors—also called “Warriors”—by selecting talented youths regardless of status, to fight for Eonia.
Warrior candidates had to continuously compete and build strength within the academy.
The unique content was the external “mission assignments.”
Since no one knew when the candidates might be thrown into real combat, the system was designed to help them gain real-world experience as early as possible.
If commoners or nobles offered a certain amount of money and requested a mission, candidates would take on the task either solo or as a team.
In other words, it wasn’t a peaceful school where you just attend classes.
…Which is why I said this is insane.
Because many of those missions are actually quite dangerous.
Since these elite candidates could be used cheaply, it was the perfect opportunity for scumbags.
They’d be drooling.
Sometimes traps were hidden within missions.
Well, the protagonist always got caught in traps just because he was the protagonist.
Unfortunately, even though it was clearly being abused, due to the surrounding political situation, this system still remained in place.
Given how things are, surviving in this world might not be easy.
Now that the game has become reality, I never know when or how I might die.
“Still, I think I can manage.”
Because anyway, all the truly dangerous stuff in this world will be handled by the protagonist, Ackerman.
The one saving grace in this hopeless situation is that I reincarnated as an extra in this game.
I just want to take on safe, low-risk missions and graduate from the academy unscathed.
Same as in the military. Neither too good nor too bad is the best position to be in.
Now’s the time to apply that life lesson.
I just want to take it easy. And not die… please.
Current time: 12:53 a.m.
Right now, I’m sitting on the dorm bed.
It’s a two-person room, but I haven’t seen a trace of my roommate.
“Out partying?”
Looking at the date, today’s the start of the semester.
Considering that the game begins with the entrance ceremony, it’s safe to say that the welcome event is already long over.
In other words, unlike the freshmen who were still awkward with each other, the upperclassmen were probably off drinking with friends they hadn’t seen in a while.
It seemed my roommate was likely a grade above me.
Well, social types don’t care about grade level when they party, but I’m not like that.
I was a thorough extra.
In other words, an outsider.
Name: Aren Blackfire
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Personality: [Gloomy] [Noble-like]
Specialties: [Dark Magic] [Blackfire: Family Secret Technique]
Stats: [Strength: 3] [Agility: 3] [Stamina: 2] [Luck: 1]
Mana: [20/20]
The problem wasn’t just that I had no friends and was a quiet outsider.
“I didn’t even know someone like this existed.”
I had reincarnated as the child of a family that was quite hated in this world.
The Blackfire family.
From what I remembered, this was a family that, a hundred years ago, had secretly borrowed the power of demons to study dark magic, got caught, and ended up ruined.
Thanks to the merits their ancestors had accumulated, they avoided total annihilation, but as punishment, they were placed under house arrest for 100 years. I was the first Blackfire to finally finish paying that debt and begin outside activities.
At the time of the main story, no one knew my face, and only the family name was treated like a useless legend—like a trash-covered empty can.
Still, maybe the saying “a rich family lasts three generations even after falling” was true, because somehow, they were still able to send their child to Warriors Academy.
There are various ways to get into Warriors—recommendations from acquaintances, scouting, entrance tests.
In my case, it must’ve been thanks to the family name.
“Well, thanks to that, I really might be able to stay quiet.”
This was someone I had never once seen while playing as Ackerman. Not in the main story, not in the side stories, nowhere did his face appear.
As the child of a disgraced family, it seemed he attended the academy completely under the radar.
Which means, he’s the perfect character to achieve my goal of living a low-key life.
“Let’s seriously live like I’m invisible.”
And since it was an old, historically rich family, I didn’t even have to worry about starving. Looking at my account, I felt so reassured.
Even the specialties looked decent—if I raised them well, I probably wouldn’t get beaten up anywhere.
[Dark Magic], [Blackfire: Family Secret Technique]
At least on the surface, it looked flashy enough to seem like something.
“Not bad.”
I kept brainwashing myself.
Let’s think positively.
Let’s at least try to live an average life, somehow!
