Chapter 3
However, such a bizarre thing should stay buried in his stomach.
Before he could speak, the head eunuch walked in quickly, holding a bowl of delicious chicken soup. Seeing the prince awake, he cried out in excitement.
Hua Sijin almost wanted to poison this noisy eunuch. Seeing the eunuch was so excited that he almost spilled the soup, she hurriedly spoke up.
“Stop shaking! Put it on the table and get out!”
The head eunuch didn’t mind the princess’s obvious dislike. He placed the soup on the table and quickly ran to the bedside.
“Prince, is there anywhere else you feel discomfort?”
Feng Jushu frowned. Before he could say anything, the concerned eunuch ran out, shouting as he went.
“Quick! Send a message to the palace! The prince is awake! Call the imperial physician!”
Feng Jushu heard the woman’s clear inner monologue again—
Good thing this medicine pot on the bed doesn’t have heart problems. Otherwise, with all this commotion, he might just kick the bucket. And I must say, this chicken soup smells delicious!
Feng Jushu was puzzled. When the head eunuch was by his side, why didn’t he sense any mental activity? Why could he only hear the woman’s thoughts?
His gaze fell on Hua Sijin, who was noisily drinking soup nearby. Seeing her in wedding clothes, he glanced at his surroundings, noticing the red decorations.
Red. Everywhere was red.
Did I… get married?
Feng Jushu was still weak from lying in bed for days. Even if he tried to speak, his voice was like a mosquito’s buzz, barely audible.
He decided to conserve his energy by closing his eyes to rest.
But he was also hungry! His stomach growled loudly, almost echoing in the room. Was that woman deaf?
Luckily, Hua Sijin couldn’t hear his complaints. Otherwise, she might knock him out again.
Time passed, and Feng Jushu’s stomach growled louder. His mind was filled with the woman’s thoughts—
So fragrant! So delicious!
So tasty! Absolutely delicious!
Just as Feng Jushu was about to lose his mind, the head eunuch’s trembling voice came from outside.
“Her… Her Majesty the Empress has arrived—”
Hua Sijin’s mouth twitched, mentally preparing for trouble. She quickly drank the remaining soup and chewed the chicken, finishing it cleanly.
Satisfied, she wiped her mouth and stood aside, ready to greet the Empress.
As a war goddess from the apocalypse, she had spent her life learning how to kill zombies, not watching TV shows or reading novels.
The original owner of this body had grown up neglected, without anyone to teach her etiquette.
So, when the door opened, Hua Sijin took a deep breath and loudly greeted:
“Welcome, Your Majesty the Empress!”
The Empress, filled with tears of joy for her son’s recovery, was so startled she nearly fell.
Fortunately, Hua Sijin quickly steadied the Empress, flashing a smile.
“Be careful, Your Majesty. Falling on flat ground can hurt. Stay safe.”
The Empress shivered, thinking:
My son might not have woken up from the good luck charm but from being scared by this loud daughter-in-law.
Calming herself, the Empress looked at Hua Sijin with a bit more approval.
The imperial physicians had said that as long as her son woke up, he could be saved.
Seeing this loud yet courteous girl, the Empress thought, since she saved my son, she’s a good daughter-in-law!
Hua Sijin was confused. Why was the Empress, who had been so startled, now looking kindly at her?
“Your Majesty, are you alright?”
Seeing some snacks on the table, Hua Sijin picked a plum and popped it into the Empress’s mouth.
The head eunuch’s brow twitched. He knew the new princess was bold but didn’t expect her to be this brazen.
“Princess, the Empress is the mother of the nation. You must perform a kneeling salute.”
Hua Sijin realized that this place had its customs.
When in Rome, do as the Romans do, she thought.
Quickly kneeling, Hua Sijin performed three loud kowtows.
The Empress sighed, thinking the girl was trying to make up for earlier improper etiquette, worried about offending her.
“Good child, we are family. No need to be so formal. Rise.”
Hua Sijin stood up in a flash, her speed startling the nanny who had been about to help her.
It was the first time the Empress saw her trusted nanny so flustered, making her smile as she spoke slowly.
“I heard the Warlord has awakened. Is it true?”
As she spoke, she walked to the bed and touched Feng Jushu’s hand.
Feng Jushu heard the woman’s inner complaint again—
I’m so done. Acting as a substitute bride for a sickly man and now having to kowtow!
Angered, Feng Jushu opened his eyes, coughing violently.
The Empress was both surprised and delighted, worried that her son’s coughing might worsen.
Feng Jushu’s face turned rosy from the coughing, looking like he had regained some vitality.
As he was about to catch his breath, he heard the woman’s inner voice again—
Why hasn’t he coughed up blood yet? Useless!
Infuriated, Feng Jushu coughed harder, spitting black blood into the cup the Empress handed him.
Hua Sijin’s eyes lit up. Finally, he coughed up the poison! My efforts weren’t in vain.
Feng Jushu was stunned, realizing the woman’s intention was to save him.
Looking at the cup of black, foul-smelling blood, he pondered.
Why could he hear only her thoughts? Not even his mother’s?
Before he could think further, the Empress gave the cup to the nanny and gently patted his back, asking softly.
“Are you feeling better, my son? I brought trusted imperial physicians from the palace to examine you. Shall we?”
