Chapter 4

Hua Sijin wanted to say there was no need for such trouble, but her curiosity about the Imperial Physician’s famed skills prevailed.

Feng Juxu, naturally, had no objections and responded with a gentle hum, fully cooperative.

Though his voice was soft, it brought immense joy to the Empress.

Seeing the Empress’s eyes redden, Hua Sijin hurried over, gently patting her back.

“It’s nothing serious, hold back those tears.”

Noticing everyone staring at her in astonishment, Hua Sijin remembered how she should speak, and cleared her throat lightly.

“Your Majesty, the Empress’s noble health is precious, it would be unwise to let tears harm your body. If your Majesty were unwell, surely the Prince would be pained and distressed.”

At this, everyone suddenly understood, and the Empress swiftly blinked away her tears, dabbing them with a handkerchief.

“See, in my joy, I lost my composure. My child, do not worry.”

With a smile, the Empress rose and allowed the Imperial Physician to take her place, while she herself slowly walked to Hua Sijin’s side, taking her hand.

“The daughter of the Left Prime Minister’s household is indeed well-mannered. I admire your straightforward nature.”

Hua Sijin smiled faintly, without explanation. After all, today’s events were enough; she didn’t want to overwhelm the Empress with too many words.

Yet her true thoughts were heard clearly by Feng Juxu—

Once a legitimate daughter, later demoted, then, after several years, tied up and married off as a concubine.

Feng Juxu’s brow twitched involuntarily. It seemed his newly awakened princess harbored great secrets. Now that he was awake, he would have someone investigate the Left Prime Minister’s household later.

The Imperial Physician, elated, couldn’t help but tremble as he stroked his beard.

“The toxins in the Prince’s body have largely dissipated. The remaining traces pose no threat. With proper care, his body will recover in time. Furthermore…”

At this, the Imperial Physician glanced at Hua Sijin, his eyes filled with fervor.

“The old battle wounds the Prince sustained have nearly healed. May I inquire, Princess, what method did you use?”

This Imperial Physician had once served as an assistant to Hua Sijin’s grandfather. After her grandfather left the Imperial Hospital, he was promoted to Imperial Physician and had now become the Deputy Director.

Even as a demoted concubine, Hua Sijin’s talents were beyond his reach.

It seems that this daughter, married to the Prince, must have been taught medical skills in her youth.

Hua Sijin shrugged and uttered something that shocked everyone.

“Perhaps the Prince’s own resilience; I merely ate an apple by his side.”

The Imperial Physician understood that the Princess did not wish to reveal her medical skills.

He respected her choice, given her awkward status. Remaining low-key was indeed wise.

“I shall prepare the prescription and have the medicines sent over shortly.”

The Empress nodded lightly and dismissed everyone from the room.

Seeing Hua Sijin also preparing to leave, she quickly called out to her.

“Good child, you are the rightful wife of my son, and should heed my words.”

Hua Sijin, unwilling to be drawn into the mother and son’s conversation, found a suitable excuse.

“I was just thinking the Prince has yet to eat. I shall prepare some easy-to-digest millet porridge.”

The Empress, even more pleased, smiled deeper.

This child was indeed good, accepting the hurried marriage without complaint.

However, what the Empress did not know, Feng Juxu heard clearly in Hua Sijin’s thoughts—

Who wants to hear royal secrets! If I’d known marrying this sickly prince would bring so much trouble, I’d rather wait for his demise with my hands in my pockets!

“Sit down and listen. There are others to handle these tasks. Now that my son is awake, you both should understand your current situation.”

Realizing they were in the same boat, Hua Sijin listened attentively for her own safety.

“Since the Crown Prince’s death, the other princes have been restless. I suspect your poisoning was due to the fact that, besides your elder brother, only you and your Crown Prince brother are legitimate heirs.”

Hua Sijin listened carefully while tending to the ailing prince, casually handing him a cushion.

“The Second Prince has always been restless, and now he openly expands his influence in the court. The Qin family, moreover, seeks to suppress your faction.”

Though listening intently, Hua Sijin felt something was missing in her hands, her eyes occasionally drifting to the plate of melon seeds on the table.

As a junior, she couldn’t afford to be disrespectful and had to restrain herself.

Seeing this, Feng Juxu frowned slightly but found her restraint amusing.

Unbeknownst to him, the normally aloof prince now found a rare amusement in Hua Sijin’s antics.

“Concubine Qin and her son are never to be trusted. You must be vigilant, especially now.”

The Empress sighed softly.

“Today, Concubine Qin’s brother pleased your father with new elixirs, making him feel revitalized. If not for the Crown Prince’s tutor risking his life to speak out, the Qin family might have gained another marquis.”

Hua Sijin sighed inwardly, these people truly couldn’t live in peace.

The royal court’s depths were indeed treacherous. Once she healed the prince, she would find a way to divorce him.

Feng Juxu’s brow twitched again. His wife was out of her mind? Rejecting the position of princess to become a divorced woman?

He hadn’t even thought of dismissing her, yet she wanted to kick him aside? Impossible!

Feeling aggrieved? Then stay aggrieved. Besides, with no interest in others, keeping this quirky woman for amusement wasn’t the worst.

However, he did catch her mention of a substitution marriage…

The Left Prime Minister seemed restless, time for a thorough investigation.

In this moment of distraction, Feng Juxu suddenly noticed Hua Sijin sitting cross-legged at the bed’s edge, gesticulating animatedly with his mother.
