Chapter 43

After a long while, Yan Jing managed to calm herself.

She put her sunglasses back on, covering the tear marks on her face, returning to her usual radiant and elegant appearance. Her aura became more refined, showing traces of a strong, independent woman.

Yan Su smiled slightly and fished through his pockets, eventually pulling out the high-definition video of Su Yi and Yan Jiaoyue.

“I had this recorded. It should help you.”

Yan Jing froze, her pale fingers turning icy cold, almost transparent. After a minute of silence, she slowly spoke.

“When we first fell in love, I thought we’d grow old together.”

A seemingly random statement, but Yan Su understood. He also caught the hint of irony in her hoarse voice.

But relationships are complicated. No couple starts out planning to separate, yet so many end up going their separate ways within a few years.

The biggest mistake Su Yi made was trying to destroy the Yan family completely.

Yan Su reassured her, “I’ll make sure they face consequences.”

This was the last wish of Yan Jiale’s soul before it disappeared.

The word “they” triggered something in Yan Jing. Her eyes widened, and she quickly pulled up the photos sent by the private investigator on her phone.

“This girl, isn’t she the one named Yan Jiaoyue, from that day at the hospital?”

Yan Su glanced over. The photo was clear, showing most of the girl’s profile. In the background was a hallway at night, under the lights. The girl was dressed in a uniform from a club, carefully supporting a tall, handsome man, admiration in her eyes.

He squinted and nodded. “Yes.”

Yan Jing’s eyes opened wide in shock. “I thought I was mistaken.”

“Didn’t she claim to be Su Ye’s girlfriend?”

Yan Su turned away, not particularly interested. “Who knows.”

Knowing full well that Su Yi was married, yet she still got involved with him. This time, he wanted to see how Yan Jiaoyue would navigate between the Su brothers.

In the original plot, Yan Jing was unaware of her husband’s affair. When she became pregnant, she was filled with joy, eager to share the good news with him. Instead, Su Yi heartlessly ordered someone to abort the child.

After the surgery, as the anesthesia wore off, she woke up in the hospital bed to find her husband handing her divorce papers. The cold, ruthless terms hit her hard—once she signed, she would leave with nothing.

Soon after, the tragic news of Yan Shu’s suicide by jumping into a river spread, pushing Yan Jing, already devastated, into complete despair.

She broke down mentally and was sent to a psychiatric hospital.

“Sister, it’s not worth being sad over Su Yi. Once you’re done with the divorce, I’ll introduce you to some young, handsome guys.”

Yan Su didn’t miss the complex emotions in Yan Jing’s eyes and gently comforted her.

Yan Jing tugged at the corners of her mouth, smiling bitterly.

Her husband’s mistress was the girl her brother had secretly liked for three years. Maybe her brother was even more heartbroken than she was. How could she possibly be the one here, crying and grieving?

She had to pull herself together and set an example for her brother and sister.

At Yun University.

As soon as Yan Su entered the campus, he noticed the strange looks he was getting from every direction. People kept glancing at him, whispering in groups of two or three.

“That’s the guy from the forum, the one who dumped his girlfriend for a rich girl. He’s pretty handsome!”

“Handsome doesn’t mean anything. Look at how he treated his ex, asking for all the gifts back after they broke up. What kind of man does that?”

“But he’s the top student in the Computer Science department. Is he really that stingy?”

“Pfft, the richer they are, the stingier they get!”

The voices trickled into Yan Su’s ears, causing the veins on his forehead to twitch. His eyes flashed with confusion.

Then he quickened his pace.

When he arrived at the dormitory, the scene before him stunned him.

A huge crowd had gathered in front of the dormitory building. There were so many people, it was impossible to see the door. The area was packed with onlookers, men and women, forming layer after layer of curious faces.

In the middle of the crowd, a small space was cleared, and a speaker was blaring loudly on repeat.

“Yan Jiale, you stingy, low-class jerk! All the gifts you gave Jiaoyue are right here. If you have any guts, come down and take them! Let all the students of Yun University see your face, and warn the other girls not to fall for your tricks!”

“Yan Jiale, you stingy, low-class jerk! All the gifts you gave Jiaoyue are right here. If you have any guts, come down and take them! Let all the students of Yun University see your face, and warn the other girls not to fall for your tricks!”

The voice was unmistakable.

Yan Su’s memory was sharp, and he immediately recognized it as Ruan Zhixia’s voice. Sweet and soft, but amplified through the loudspeaker, it echoed through the campus like an endless drone.

“Hiss—”

Yan Su stepped back a few paces, rubbing his chin.

Who came up with this idea? It was so vicious.

The next second, the evil loudspeaker was raised high, its golden color glaring and conspicuous.

A petite, doll-faced girl climbed onto a bench, holding the loudspeaker aloft, raising her arm and shouting, “Yan Jiale, get out here! You have the nerve to demand breakup compensation? Then have the nerve to come downstairs, you cowardly turtle!”

Standing tall, her pale face was flushed red, resembling a warrior bravely charging to her death.

The scene was quite spectacular.

The students who had gathered were caught up in the atmosphere, joining in the shouting.

Yan Su covered his face, ready to leave, but suddenly his expression turned cold. He pulled out his phone and tapped the screen a few times.

A video of Yan Jiaoyue and Su Yi kissing quickly appeared on the forum.

The post titled “Exposing the Computer Science Department Genius as a Stingy, Heartless Low-life” had dominated the forum’s hot topics for several days.

Yun University students were enjoying the gossip immensely.

Any little stir would instantly bring out the lurkers.

Yan Su’s video was like throwing gasoline on the fire, drawing out even more hidden participants.

Comments flooded the post, nearly crashing the campus network.

Yan Su looked at his handiwork, smiling with satisfaction.

He looked up at the crowd; they hadn’t noticed yet.

But soon, they would.

Ruan Zhixia, as if fueled by adrenaline, had completely abandoned her usual sweet and gentle persona. She stood on the bench, shouting at the top of her lungs towards Yan Su’s dorm room, her voice hoarse.

Yan Su snorted, averting his gaze.

He decided to find a hotel outside the campus and lay low for the night.

Just as he turned around, someone grabbed his shoulder from behind.

The grip was strong, as if the person had trained in iron palm techniques, holding him firmly and refusing to let go.

“You’re Yan Jiale, aren’t you? Where do you think you’re going? Don’t even think about running away!”

The guy shouted, his voice excited, as if he had just discovered something amazing.

His voice was so loud and deep that it even drowned out the loudspeaker and quickly attracted the attention of the other students.

Yan Jiale’s face was immediately exposed to the crowd and recognized.

As soon as the students saw him, their eyes lit up, and they grew excited.

“Yan Jiale is here! Quick, block him, don’t let him escape!”

Someone yelled, and the next second, the sea of people swarmed around Yan Su. Some grabbed his arms, others held his legs, and some even wrapped their arms around his waist, as if terrified he would slip away.

Yan Su had never been treated like this in his life. His body stiffened, unable to move, feeling like a criminal captured by the masses, about to be handed over to the police at any moment.

Ruan Zhixia noticed him and immediately turned off the loudspeaker.

She jumped down from the bench, a flash of smugness in her eyes.

Raising her chin arrogantly, she walked toward Yan Su.

The crowd parted in the middle, creating a path for her.

She relished the moment, feeling as if she were walking a red carpet, her heart swelling with satisfaction.

She looked at Yan Su as if he were a helpless ant she was about to crush.

“Yan Jiale, the gifts you gave to Jiaoyue are over there,” she pointed behind her with a haughty attitude. “Please don’t bother Jiaoyue anymore. She asked me to tell you that she wishes you and Miss Gui a happy and fulfilling life, with many children.”

The surrounding students watched this scene intently, holding their breath, clenching their fists in anticipation, as if witnessing a historic moment.

“Beep beep—”

Phone notification sounds kept going off.

Someone glanced at their phone and went from a casual expression to one of shock.

Yan Su looked at Ruan Zhixia curiously, perplexed. “But I never dated Yan Jiaoyue.”

He pointed to the box of gifts not far away.

“Those were gifts I gave her when I was pursuing her. She accepted them, but she never agreed to be with me.”

“Ruan Zhixia, what exactly are you trying to do with this spectacle today?”

The relationship between Yan Jiale and Yan Jiaoyue wasn’t well-known outside their close circle of classmates.

Ruan Zhixia had counted on this fact to boldly smear his reputation.

Yan Su’s reaction was exactly what she had expected.

She glanced toward the corner and exchanged a knowing look with Su Ye, who was hidden among the crowd. Confident, she smiled and turned her attention back to Yan Su.

“Yan Jiale, as a man, you should be open and honest. Keeping secrets like this is really…”

She sighed and shook her head regretfully.

Anyone watching would surely think Yan Su was lying.

This was a trap carefully planned by Ruan Zhixia and her two accomplices, rehearsed countless times with no room for error.

Yet the expected chorus of agreement didn’t come.

Ruan Zhixia’s expression changed slightly, and she turned around.

She saw everyone staring at their phones, shock on their faces, discussing something.

“What’s going on?”

A bad feeling crept into her heart.

She grabbed the phone from a nearby girl, and the video on the screen showed a man and a woman in a passionate embrace.

The woman was Yan Jiaoyue, the supposed girlfriend of Yan Jiale, who had allegedly been heartlessly dumped and had cried for days in her dorm.

In the video, she was wearing a club uniform, her face shy as an attractive man held her and kissed her.

The man looked familiar.

It was none other than Su Yi, the CEO of Su Corporation, who had given a speech at their university just two months ago.

Su Yi, the man Yan Jiaoyue had been pining for, the one she had been asking around about for so long, the powerful figure at the top of Yun City’s business world.

When had they gotten together?

Ruan Zhixia gritted her teeth, a flash of jealousy crossing her face.
