Chapter 46
Yan Su knew exactly what Jiang Xuefeng was up to.
He had been keeping an eye on him for a while.
Half a month ago, Jiang Shaofeng, Jiang Xuefeng’s scummy cousin, had moved into his house.
Thinking about it, Yan Su’s gaze turned cold.
He told Yan Shu, “Second sister, don’t go to his house. Tell him you’ve booked a room at the Hot Springs Villa and invite him to join you for a vacation. I recently heard that Yan Jiaoyue and her friend Ruan Zhixia are interning at Su Corporation, and Jiang Xuefeng is close to both of them. I’m worried that his sudden affection for you might be part of some hidden agenda.”
Yan Shu was startled and quickly followed Yan Su’s advice in her reply to Jiang Xuefeng.
Soon after, Jiang Xuefeng agreed to her invitation, and they arranged to go to the Hot Springs Villa the day after next.
That evening, the private investigator keeping tabs on Jiang Xuefeng reported to Yan Su that Jiang Shaofeng had already set off for the Hot Springs Villa. Likely following his cousin’s orders, he bought a few bottles of alcohol and checked into the room next to Yan Shu’s suite.
Yan Su sneered. It seemed Jiang Xuefeng still wasn’t giving up—changing locations, but still trying to trap Yan Shu.
But this time, the upper hand was in his own control.
The next day at Su Corporation.
Ruan Zhixia walked out of the restroom with an upset expression. Thinking about what she had overheard in the stall—her colleagues gossiping about her—made her furious.
After the finals, her close friend Yan Jiaoyue had moved out of their dorm and directly into Su Yi’s house, becoming his secret lover.
Thanks to Su Yi’s arrangements, Yan Jiaoyue had landed an internship in the CEO’s office as an apprentice secretary at Su Corporation.
Taking advantage of the situation, Ruan Zhixia shamelessly snagged an internship at Su Corporation too, but she wasn’t as lucky. She was assigned to work with the regular staff, spending her days making tea, delivering documents, and printing papers for her colleagues.
Today, she got scolded by her supervisor for mixing up a file.
Fuming, Ruan Zhixia had hidden in the restroom to cry, only to overhear her colleagues gossiping behind her back—saying she only got into the company through connections and didn’t have any real skills, accusing her of always sucking up to Assistant Jiang.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she got, and she began to hate those gossiping colleagues.
If they had the guts to talk behind her back, why didn’t they try sucking up to Assistant Jiang themselves? It’s not like he would give them the time of day.
Ruan Zhixia wiped her red-rimmed eyes, stood in front of the mirror, and touched up her makeup. She decided to go complain to Jiang Xuefeng.
She had become familiar with him through Yan Jiaoyue, and from the moment she laid eyes on the man, she knew he was her type.
However, everyone in the company knew that Jiang Xuefeng’s girlfriend was Yan Shu, the sister-in-law of the CEO. Ruan Zhixia didn’t dare reveal her feelings, but she had been biding her time, hoping to create an opportunity to drive a wedge between the two of them.
She found Jiang Xuefeng in the break room.
He was on the phone, and she vaguely heard him mention “Hot Springs Villa” and “Shu Shu.”
Ruan Zhixia furrowed her brows and waited patiently. Once he hung up, she asked, “Assistant Jiang, were you talking to your girlfriend?”
When Jiang Xuefeng saw her, his eyes lit up, as if pleasantly surprised. “Xia, you’re a girl—can you help me figure out what’s going on with my girlfriend? Lately, her behavior has been really strange, and I can’t understand her at all.”
His face looked genuinely troubled.
Ruan Zhixia was a bit taken aback. “What happened? Tell me about it, Assistant Jiang.”
Jiang Xuefeng sighed and replied helplessly, “I don’t know either, but recently, she’s been growing colder towards me. Every time we talk on the phone, we barely speak before she hangs up. Tomorrow is her birthday, and I had planned a candlelight dinner at home to celebrate, but she told me she’s going to the Hot Springs Villa for a spa day and asked me not to disturb her. It feels like my big surprise has gone to waste.”
“I’ve been working overtime for half a month and just want to see her. Do you think if I secretly followed her, she’d be upset?”
Hearing this, Ruan Zhixia’s eyes widened in anger and jealousy.
The man she adored was being sweet and thoughtful to another woman, and worse, he was coming to her for advice.
If that woman was better than her, it might have made sense, but Yan Shu? She had an average education, an average job, and was only fortunate enough to have a sister married to the CEO, which instantly boosted her status.
The more Ruan Zhixia thought about it, the more frustrated she became, jealousy eating away at her.
After a moment, her eyes lit up with an idea, and she quickly suggested, “Assistant Jiang, don’t you know some women like to say the opposite of what they mean? Maybe she’s mad because you’ve been too busy with work and not giving her enough attention. She’s probably sulking, hoping you’ll make it up to her. She might say not to bother her, but deep down, she’s probably dying to see you. If you take her words literally and ignore her, she might get even angrier.”
“You should definitely go find her.”
She concluded with confidence.
Inwardly, she was gloating.
From her experience of observing these kinds of dramas, there was a high chance that Yan Shu was seeing another man.
Not celebrating her birthday with her boyfriend? That was probably because she planned to spend it with some other guy.
If Jiang Xuefeng followed her, he might just catch her red-handed.
Jiang Xuefeng hesitated, half-doubting, “Is that really the case?”
Ruan Zhixia nodded firmly, her eyes appearing sincere. “Of course! I wouldn’t lie to you. If you don’t believe me…” She batted her eyes innocently. “I could go with you. If Yan Shu gets mad, you can just blame me.”
Jiang Xuefeng thought about it for a moment, then nodded, agreeing that it seemed like a good idea. “You’re right, Xia. I’ll book a room right away.”
Ruan Zhixia hadn’t expected him to actually take her advice, and she was momentarily stunned. Wow, he really is a straightforward guy, she thought.
However, she soon felt secretly thrilled. Could this mean she was special to him?
As she pondered the possibility, her cheeks flushed, and she cast a shy glance at Jiang Xuefeng before happily returning to work.
Once she left, Jiang Xuefeng’s expression immediately hardened as he stared after her disappearing figure and muttered, “What a fool. Did you think I couldn’t see through your little schemes? But, with a best friend like you, ruining Yan Shu’s reputation won’t be too hard…”
Thinking about the task he’d instructed his cousin to carry out, Jiang Xuefeng’s eyes lit up with a satisfied smile.
It wasn’t that he wanted to be so ruthless—after all, Yan Shu was the most beautiful girlfriend he had ever had. But he accidentally discovered Su Yi browsing information online about divorce. He could hardly believe Yan Jiaoyue’s charm was that powerful, but it seemed so. Su Yi was already secretly planning to divorce Yan Jing for her.
Early the next morning, Yan Su and Yan Shu arrived together at the hot spring resort.
It was scorching hot, and the place was almost deserted. After wandering around with Yan Shu, Yan Su pointed at a scrawny man with shifty eyes not far away and said, “Second sister, do you know who that is?”
Yan Shu shook her head. “Do you know him?”
Yan Su’s eyes grew cold as he stared at the man. Even his voice took on a frosty tone. “That’s Jiang Xuefeng’s cousin, Jiang Shaofeng. Spoiled by his family, he dropped out of middle school and spent his time hanging around with lowlifes. Jiang Xuefeng usually despises him, but half a month ago, he took him into his home and treated him well. After receiving your invitation the other day, Jiang Xuefeng booked a room for Jiang Shaofeng at this resort, right next to yours.”
Surprised by all this information about Jiang Shaofeng, Yan Shu asked, “How do you know all of this? Why are you even paying attention to Jiang Xuefeng and his cousin?”
Yan Su detected the tension in her voice and smiled faintly.
Up until now, he’d kept Jiang Xuefeng’s shady plans hidden from her to spare her worries. But now that things were coming to a head, he couldn’t keep it secret any longer.
Leaning close to her ear, he whispered every sordid, filthy detail of the scheme Jiang Xuefeng had concocted.
Yan Shu’s face turned paler and paler. What Yan Su said shook her to the core. Though she had been dating Jiang Xuefeng for two years and knew he was calculating and sometimes ruthless in his pursuit of goals, she had never seen this side of him so clearly.
Now, as Yan Su laid it all out before her, she felt a chill down her spine.
Not long ago, she had even thought about marrying this man, imagining a lifetime together.
“How could he plot against me like this? Just because my older sister is going to divorce Su Yi, I’m no longer useful to him, so now he wants to destroy me?” Yan Shu was deeply pained.
Seeing her fear, Yan Su took her back to the room.
“I’ve had people watching Jiang Shaofeng. When he arrived at the hot spring resort, he brought several bottles of spiked wine. I expect Jiang Xuefeng will ask you to drink with him at lunch, get you drunk, and then send Jiang Shaofeng in. Afterward, Jiang Xuefeng will ‘just happen’ to return, catching you in the act with Jiang Shaofeng.”
“But don’t worry, I’ve prepared everything. Today, Jiang Xuefeng’s scheme is going to fail.”
…
At the same time, Su Ye received a text message from an unknown number. The sender claimed to be Yan Jiaoyue, asking to meet him at the hot spring resort.
Su Ye had a complicated love-hate relationship with this woman.
It was strange. He had always detested gold diggers—women who sought to use him to climb up in the Su family. But Yan Jiaoyue seemed like an exception. Despite her delicate and fragile appearance, love for drama, and selfishness, Su Ye found himself deeply drawn to her.
Previously, he’d tried to make life difficult for her at school, hoping to push her into a corner where she would have no choice but to rely on him.
To his surprise, she’d somehow managed to attach herself to his brother. Su Yi, the aloof and emotionless CEO who never seemed to have a personal life, had even set up a secret home for Yan Jiaoyue.
The mere thought of his brother stealing the woman he was interested in filled Su Ye with rage.
Half an hour later, he drove alone to the resort.
Arriving close to noon, Su Ye knocked on the door mentioned in the text. After a moment, Yan Jiaoyue opened it.
Seeing him, she furrowed her brows and asked angrily, “Su Ye, what are you playing at? Why did you ask me to come here?”
Su Ye sneered, giving her a once-over. Noticing how much healthier she looked, he said sarcastically, “Weren’t you the one who texted me? It seems you’ve been doing quite well, Yan Jiaoyue.”
