Chapter 51

Yan Su received a report from the private investigator.

It stated that Ruan Zhixia had fabricated false evidence and planned to cause trouble at Yan Shu’s workplace to ruin her reputation.

Without haste, he reported the matter to the police and brought along the prepared materials to the hospital with the officers.

In the hospital lobby, Ruan Zhixia’s loud accusations echoed.

“Where’s your supervisor? I want to report Nurse Yan Shu for her indecent private life. She shamelessly seduced my husband despite having a boyfriend, ruining my family!”

She held onto a shifty-looking man, none other than her “husband,” Jiang Shaofeng.

A cold expression immediately appeared on Yan Su’s face.

“Officer, this woman has targeted my sister by causing trouble and slandering her reputation.”

“Ladies and gentlemen, doctors, nurses, and patients’ families, please judge for yourselves. I’ve been married to my husband for three years, and we’ve always had a good relationship. But because Yan Shu’s boyfriend is too busy with work to accompany her, she couldn’t bear the loneliness and seduced my husband! My husband is her boyfriend’s cousin, and she’s stooped to such disgraceful behavior…”

Ruan Zhixia clung to the disheveled Jiang Shaofeng, crying dramatically, as if she had suffered an enormous grievance.

She wiped the tears she had induced with eye drops and was about to continue defaming Yan Shu when a group of police officers suddenly surrounded her.

“Ms. Ruan Zhixia, we received a report that you are suspected of defaming another person’s reputation. Please come with us.”

Her tears stopped immediately as she stared at the officers in disbelief, hiccupping from her earlier sobbing.

“Is there… some kind of misunderstanding?”

She gripped Jiang Shaofeng’s hand tightly, her tension evident.

However, Jiang Shaofeng, a habitual petty thief, had no intention of staying. The moment he saw the police, he shook off Ruan Zhixia and tried to flee.

Unfortunately, his skills were no match for the officers, and after running just over ten meters, he was subdued.

Both of them were taken to the police station in disgrace.

By the time Yan Shu rushed over after hearing the news, the commotion was already over.

She frowned. “Is this Jiang Xuefeng instructing them to smear me again? But I broke up with him a long time ago.”

After the incident at the hot spring resort, Yan Shu had unilaterally broken up with Jiang Xuefeng.

However, according to Yan Su, Jiang Xuefeng, for some unknown reason, hadn’t told anyone about the breakup.

It was likely, just as in the original plot, that he feared being labeled an opportunist and wanted to ruin Yan Shu’s reputation first to create the illusion of being the victim.

Yan Su comforted her. “Don’t worry. Jiang Xuefeng will have trouble soon enough. He’s too greedy. Under Su Ye’s introduction, he’s been stringing along several wealthy heiresses, hoping to pick the most suitable one. But those heiresses aren’t fools.”

Last night, Yan Su anonymously sent warnings to the heiresses.

Those heiresses, being only daughters of their wealthy families, initially admired Jiang Xuefeng’s talents and were considering taking him in as a live-in son-in-law.

But if Jiang Xuefeng’s character was questionable, and he was juggling multiple relationships, they had plenty of ways to ensure he paid the price.

Meanwhile, in the office of the boss of Ke Wang Gaming Company, Su Ye’s furious yelling could be heard.

“Shi Zhuowen, you swore to me that within half a month, you’d make Star Pirate Showdown the disgrace of the industry, bankrupt Yan Jiale, and force him out of the gaming world. I used my connections to help you buy trending topics and gave you the Su family’s backing, but after all this time, not only has there been no result, but Star Pirate Showdown is becoming more and more popular!”

“You owe me an explanation!”

Shi Zhuowen cowered in the corner, trembling, too scared to even breathe.

He knew the plan to deal with Yan Jiale had failed.

Initially, he thought Yan Jiale and Hou Jun would be easy targets—one a fresh graduate and the other with some industry connections but nowhere near powerful enough to be invincible.

They seemed like easy prey.

But he underestimated his opponents.

Hou Jun was far too cunning.

At the start, online public opinion was overwhelmingly against Star Pirate Showdown. But before long, they turned the tide and launched a successful counterattack, turning the situation into a powerful wave of publicity.

This demonstrated just how formidable Hou Jun was.

Shi Zhuowen now deeply regretted letting Hou Jun resign so easily.

Before his uncle passed away, he repeatedly reminded Shi Zhuowen that Hou Jun was the backbone of the company and should be treated well and learned from.

But out of arrogance and his feud with Yan Jiale, Shi Zhuowen insisted on falling out with Hou Jun.

“Second Young Master, please don’t be angry. I still have another plan.”

Shi Zhuowen obsequiously poured Su Ye a cup of coffee. Watching his expression, he hurriedly said, “The turnaround of Star Pirate Showdown is definitely all Hou Jun’s doing. Hou Jun is a veteran figure at Ke Wang. He left the company because of a dispute with me. If I humble myself and ask him to return, he’ll surely come back out of respect for my late uncle.”

“Once Yan Jiale loses Hou Jun as his main asset, let’s see what he has to compete with you.”

Su Ye suppressed his anger, took a sip of coffee, and asked doubtfully, “Are you sure?”

“I guarantee it.” Shi Zhuowen swore, raising his hand solemnly. “If this plan fails again, I’ll resign and let you find someone more capable to manage the company.”

That evening, when Su Ye returned home, he saw the long-absent Yan Jiaoyue sitting on the sofa, her face shy and flushed as Wei Fang fed her fruit.

“Eat more grapes; they’re good for making the baby’s eyes dark and bright.”

For some reason, seeing this scene stirred a wave of anger in Su Ye.

He hadn’t been involved with other women for a long time.

Ever since Yan Jiaoyue got together with his elder brother, he realized he didn’t mind her vanity and lies. On the contrary, he had unknowingly developed feelings for her.

But why did she have to become his brother’s woman?

Bitter at heart, Su Ye maintained a cold demeanor. “Mom, why is she in our house?”

His tone was full of disdain.

The vibrant glow in Yan Jiaoyue’s eyes instantly dimmed.

Wei Fang gave him a reproachful look. “Your elder brother and Jiaoyue got their marriage certificate today. She’s now your sister-in-law, so you need to respect her.”

“And don’t scare my grandchild, or I’ll deal with you!” she added.

Su Ye felt as if he’d been struck over the head, leaving him dizzy.

Marriage certificate…

They were married?

In a daze, Su Ye stumbled back to his room and collapsed onto his bed, burying his face in the covers like an ostrich.

His phone rang several times before he irritably answered it.

“Second Young Master, I’ve run into some trouble and need your help,” Jiang Xuefeng’s anxious voice came through.

It sounded panicked, even tinged with fear.

Su Ye snapped, “I already introduced my cousin to you. What more do you want?”

Jiang Xuefeng hesitated for a moment before stammering with chattering teeth, “Second Young Master, I beg you, just this once. Several heiresses from prominent families have banded together to report me to the boss for toying with their feelings. You know how strict the boss is about employees’ personal conduct. If he finds out what I’ve done, I’ll definitely get fired!”

Hearing this, Su Ye bolted upright in bed, frowning. “How did it escalate to this?”

Jiang Xuefeng evaded the details but clung to the leverage of Su Ye’s and Yan Jiaoyue’s involvement at the hot spring resort, using it to pressure him for help.

Frustrated, Su Ye sneered, “You brought this on yourself. If you dared to entangle yourself with several heiresses, you’d better be ready for their revenge. I can’t help you.”

As he was about to hang up, Jiang Xuefeng’s sinister voice cut through. “Second Young Master, what if the boss finds out about your inappropriate feelings toward Yan Jiaoyue? Do you think he’d suspect that the baby she’s carrying is yours?”

Su Ye’s guilty conscience immediately showed on his face. “You wouldn’t dare!”

Driven to desperation, Jiang Xuefeng no longer cared. “Why wouldn’t I? Don’t forget that you introduced me to those heiresses. If I’m going down, I’ll drag you with me!”

Su Ye’s expression shifted as he weighed his options. After a long pause, he asked for Jiang Xuefeng’s address and drove over.

When Su Ye arrived, Jiang Xuefeng was drinking heavily. Reeking of alcohol, he threw out a tempting proposal. “Second Young Master, you’re a son of the Su family. Are you content to remain under the boss’s shadow your whole life, playing the role of a frivolous Second Young Master?”

“Don’t you want to take the boss’s place?”

That day, Hou Jun was having lunch with Yan Su when he suddenly received a message from Shi Zhuowen.

[Brother Hou, got time? Let’s catch up.]

Holding his phone, Hou Jun froze for a long time before showing it to Yan Su. “What does this mean?”

Yan Su glanced at it and chuckled, patting Hou Jun on the shoulder. “It means he’s trying to poach you. Get ready for me to give you a promotion and a raise.”

Hou Jun twitched his lips. He’d been in the professional world for years and wasn’t naïve enough to misinterpret Shi Zhuowen’s intent.

But what surprised him was that someone as arrogant as Shi Zhuowen, who had left on such bad terms, would lower himself to initiate contact.

What kind of crisis could make him set aside his pride?

“I heard Ke Wang hasn’t been doing well lately,” Yan Su said nonchalantly. “All their key personnel have left. That overseas PhD they hired to oversee things has made a mess of the company.”

“Shi Zhuowen probably finally woke up and is trying to play the sentiment card.”

“I’ll reject him,” Hou Jun said without hesitation.

He had devoted over a decade to Ke Wang, nearly at the cost of his life, and considered that more than repaying his former boss’s support.

There was no way he would return to save Ke Wang just because of nostalgia.

Now, working with Yan Su, he had a stress-free job, plenty of time for his family, and no reason to take on the headache of working for Shi Zhuowen again.

Yan Su blinked and suddenly suggested, “Why not mess with him a little? Meet him for a couple of meals, let him think he has hope, then betray him at a critical moment. Consider it payback.”

Hou Jun shook his head. “No need. My time is precious. I won’t waste it on him.”
